| 内容記述 | After the September 18 Incident of 1931, the anti-Japanese movement in China surged. Under such circumstances, Japanese Shibunkai (斯文会) held a grand Confucianism conference in 1935 in line with the Japanese Government’s policy of "Sino-Japanese rapprochemen" towards China. Slogans such as "Respect Confucius" and "Promote Confucianism" were used to draw in Chinese people and dispel anti-Japanese sentiments in China. To achieve this goal, the Japanese side used diplomatic means to entice influential Chinese scholars, celebrities and descendants of Confucius to attend the conference. However, despite the grandeur of the Confucian conference, China's reaction to the event showed that not only was it ineffective, but it also provoked Chinese vigilance and resistance. | |||||
