内容記述 | This paper is the consideration of HISHIDA Shunso (1874-1911) "Wang Zhaojun", striving for two perspectives of (1) costumes and (2) imagery and expression. He is the one of the painters from the mid-Meiji Era to the end of the year and in just two decades as a painter, reformed Japanese art in the Meiji Era under the OKAKURA Kakuzo (1863-1913). During the Meiji Era, European policy was almost synonymous with modernization for Japan, which actively embraced Western culture, although conversely, Japan's awareness of traditionalism also intensified at the same time, producing Japanese painting. The historical paintings, which were popular during the Meiji 20s and 30s, incorporate Western-style depictions of three-dimensional space and a technique of depictive human portrayal. They related the accurate history found in occupational accidents and magnificent antiquities; aiming to reproduce the same in an ideal and sometimes frank manner. Oriental art such as a China story was included and linked to multicultural work created by Japanese people on Chinese themes and using Western techniques. A famous attempt by painters around OKAKURA includes a "Morotai", but this is also a historical painting of the Oriental theme. Shunso depicted Wang Zhaojun as a Tang beauty and was not overly interested in historical accuracy. His historical paintings also outlined the theme of Chinese culture conveyed in Japan and were intended to convey emotion. He selected the most sentimental scene from the story of Wang Zhaojun and expressed the volume of the persons by Western techniques. He expressed "noble", prioritizing expression and techniques over historical considerations. This attitude emphasizing stories over facts differs from historical paintings where the history of Japan is concerned. Through consideration of these paintings, I try to raise questions concerning studies of oriental historical paintings. | |||||
