| 内容記述 | 西日本に確認されている古代山城について多くの研究が蓄積されてきたが，年代や構造など未確定の部分も多かった。しかし発掘資料の増加などから，7世紀後半から8世紀初頭という建設時期が現在では示されている。さらに，天智朝を中心としたより限られた一時期に建設されたとの指摘もなされてきている。本稿では先行研究の成果をもとに，古代山城と官衙，交通路との関連から北部九州，特に肥前国の地域性を理解する「山城の古代地誌」の可能性と課題を考察した。山城が建設された時期には，後の大宰府中心の地域構造とは異なる防衛体制が敷かれた。有明海や肥前国の重要度はより高かったと考えられ，駅路に加えて外敵の侵入を急報する烽火のネットワークの復原研究の進展が望まれる。 | |||||||||

| 内容記述 | Many studies have examined the ancient mountain castles built all over Western Japan; however, the construction dates and structures of the castles remain to be clarified. Nevertheless, as a result of the recent excavations, the date of construction is currently estimated to be sometime between the latter half of the seventh century and the beginning of the eighth century; some researchers believe that they were constructed specifically during the reign of Emperor Tenji. Based on these previous studies, this study examines the possibilities and problems of the “topography of ancient mountain castles” to understand the regional characteristics of northern Kyusyu, especially Hizen Province, in relation to ancient mountain castles, government offices, and traffic routes. As the defense system at the time when ancient mountain castles were constructed was considered to be different from that of the later regional structure centered on Dazaifu, the Ariake Sea and Hizen Province were considered to be more significant than they were at the time when ancient government roads were developed. Therefore, restoration research must be advanced not just on ancient government roads but also on the network of smoke signals that warned about foreign enemy invasions. | |||||||||
