| 内容記述 | This paper is the investigation for Seong Yup village and traditional houses in Cheju Island. The purpose of this study is to find out the some characteristics concerning space composition. Architecture conforms to the natural and social environments, and to historical traditions. The idea behind an architecture is personal, and also objective. In history, a form of architecture appears, grows little by little and continuously changes as the centuries go by. Recently, however, the destruction of the environment due to indiscriminate resort developments in the islands has become conspicuous. We must stop further such developments. We should instead study the islander's private dwellings, those which are part of the island's traditions. We should look for the characteristics which are unique to the area. We must seek the uniqueness of the local architecture. Cheju Island has the most unique culture in the Korean Peninsula. It is totally different from the culture in the mainland. The peculiar sense of space, and the shape of the houses attract one's attention. The deciding factor for such characteristics is the climate. With strong sea winds and a amount of rainfall, the wind has the greatest impact. Basalt is obtaining a unique effect from strong winds. The roof is made of durable materials packed tightly and fastened to produce a unique form. |
