| 内容記述 | 1．いわゆる鼻曲りの仮面と呼ばれる特徴的な形状を持つ数例の土製仮面を実見した。 2．鼻曲りの仮面についての考古学的研究の文献を展望した。 （1）現存の鼻曲りの仮面は縄文時代の後期から晩期の早い時期に属すると考えられている。 （2）土製仮面は2類に分類されている。 （3）なぜ鼻曲りの造形が現れたのかについてのいくつかの討論がある。 3．先史時代における仮面の社会的心理的意義が考察された。 （1）呪術との関連 （2）悪霊よけ （3）変身 （4）精霊の監視を避ける （5）仮面のマツリの社会的機能 （6）鼻曲りの仮面の造形的意味 4． さまざまな歪みの仮面の実例を供覧した。 |

| 内容記述 | 1. Several cases of masks with distorted noses are observed. 2. Archaeological research on those masks is reviewed. (1) The nose-distorted masks came from remains from the latest period of the Jōmon era. (2) The nose-distorted masks have been classified into 2 groups. (3) Some points concerning the reason for the nose distortion are discussed. 3. Social and psychological meanings of masks in prehistorical age are inferred. (1) Magical functions. (2) Protecting living beings from Evil. (3) Transformations. (4) Avoiding the eyes of the Spirits watching living people. (5) Social functions of masks in ancient religious events. (6) Understanding of the style of the nose-distorted masks. 4. Various kinds of masks with face/nose distortion are displayed worldwide. |
