| 内容記述 | This paper examines womenʼs role as researcher as well as research subject in the early Chicago School of Sociology. Since the founding of the University of Chicago in 1892, Chicago has become the center of sociological research in the United States of America. In the newly developed city of Chicago, sociologists were already researching social change and its problems. In sociological research women mainly appeared as examples of social dysfunction, such as prostitutes or teenage runaways, for example, but female researchers and social reformers played an important role in the way the Chicago School of Sociology grew and progressed. Looking at three published pieces of research （Hull-Houseʼs “Maps and Papers”，Paul G. Cresseyʼs “The Taxi-Dance Hall”，and Frances Donovanʼs “The Woman Who Waits”） and unpublished documents archived in the special collections of the University of Chicago Library, this paper makes clear that womenʼs point of view was crucial in the development of sociology in Chicago. | |||||

| 内容記述 | 20世紀前半までのシカゴ学派社会学は、関心の対象である社会変動を、しばしば女性の役割の変化や規範からの逸脱を通して論じてきた。さらに、シカゴ大学は開学当初から男女共学の研究教育機関であったことに加え、当初からハル・ハウスなどの女性を中心とする社会改革運動とも密接な関係を持っていた。そのため、女性は調査の対象であると同時に、新しい都市問題を調査・研究する側でもあった。本稿では、当時公刊された研究書とシカゴ大学図書館のアーカイブに収蔵されている資料を、シカゴ学派社会学における女性の役割を分析する。特に、シカゴ学派社会学の成立と発展において、調査を行う側として関わった女性が、女性の行動や意識の変化を異なる視点から考察し、シカゴ学派社会学の特色ある発展に寄与していったことを明らかにする。 | |||||
