| 内容記述 | 『記憶と和解』は、カトリック教会が教会構成員の過去及び現在の行ないのあるもの(代表的な例は、「キリスト者の分裂」、「真理に仕える時の強制力の使用」、「ユダヤ人に対する敵意や不信」)の過ちを認めて、それに対する神の赦しを求め、傷つけられた人々の赦し、その人々との和解を求める文書である。その根底には、聖書に啓示された、心から認めた罪に対する神の赦しと神の掟「兄弟愛、アガペを生きよ」がある。基本的な問題は、観念としては誰彼を問わずどの人間に対しても与えられるべき愛であったアガペが、特に中世や近代の実践においては、信仰を同じくする人々の間での愛であり、異教、異端の人々に対しては、教会分裂、十字軍、異端審問、不正な権力との協同などが真の信仰に基づく業として行なわれてきたということにある。この文書は従って、カトリック以外のさまざまな信仰、信念を、それが当然の社会秩序、即ち、人間の権利、万人に共通の善を傷つけない限り、それぞれに独自な価値を持つものとして尊重し、寛容すること(第二ヴァティカン公会議教令)を基にしている。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | "Memory and Reconciliation" is a document in which the Roman Catholic Church acknowledges faults committed by certain members, past and present, of the Church, such as 'the division of Christians', 'the use of force in the service of truth', and 'the hostility towards or distrust of Jews', asks both God and those offended for forgiveness, and seeks reconciliation with the latter. The basis of this declaration is God's forgiveness of sincerely acknowledged sin and His commandment to live with others in brotherly love, or agape (charity), as revealed in the Scriptures. The fundamental problem has been that agape, which is to be offered without distinction of persons, had been recognized especially by the mediaeval and the modern Church as properly to be demonstrated only towards those of her own Catholic faith, resulting in schisms dividing Christian from Christian, in the Crusades, in the Inquisition and other forms of persecution of those branded by the Church as either pagans, infidels or heretics, and in frequent complicity with unjust secular powers-all of which had been justified as acts that true faith dictates. The content of the document here examined is thus founded upon respect and toleration for the various non-Roman Catholic faiths and beliefs, each of which has its own particular worth, an evaluation that is to be demonstrated within the limits of due public order or due respect for the rights of human beings and the common good of all (Decrees of the Second Vatican Council). | |||||
