内容記述 This paper examines the theoretical underpinnings of Literary Disability Studies, exploring the evolution of the social model of disability into the cultural model, the material dimensions of disability, the complexities of ableism, and the transition from emancipatory to symbiotic Disability Studies. The concept of the social model forms the basis of (Literary) Disability Studies, which posits that disability is not an inherent characteristic of the individual, but rather a construct by social power structures. However, it is not merely a discursive construct but it includes material aspects. Therefore, the notion of disability should be not regarded as a static entity, rather as an ongoing, interactive and dynamic construction process, encompassing both discourses and the material realm. The analysis of literary texts is based on the examination of individual cases situated within specific contexts. It focuses on the dynamic construction processes that occur within these cases. The field of Literary Disability Studies also provides a platform for critiquing the concept of ableism as a norm perpetuated by persons without disabilities. This is achieved by giving voice to individual experiences that challenge the dominant narrative. These considerations assume that every person is currently or potentially affected by disability. In addition to merely identifying and rectifying the oppression of people with disabilities, literary texts empower readers to conceptualize a symbiotic society in tangible terms. The process of Literary Disability Studies could be guided by this approach.
