| 内容記述 | 都市下層研究は，近代神戸の都市研究において最重要な研究分野の一つである。明治末には実際，神戸市では仲仕が全労働者の2割を占めた。一方，都市社会と生活を維持する上で，塵芥掃除人夫も重要だった。神戸市では3つの企業と個人が市から請負で，塵芥処理を行った(うち一社が，神戸労働株式会社)。実際，明治末には，神戸市では年間8万人以上の塵芥人夫が雇用された。これら仲仕と塵芥人夫の関係については，これまでほとんど注目されてこなかった。そこで，本稿では両者の関係を明らかにするために，「百人部屋」を含む大規模な寄宿舎を作ることで仲仕を管理しようとした關浦清次郎およびその関係者の活動を検討する。彼らは，1900(明治33)年に大規模な寄宿舎を備えた神戸株式会社を設立し，後に市から塵芥処理を請け負った。近代神戸における塵芥収集・処分を歴史的・地理的に論じた研究として，本研究は近代神戸の衛生および都市下層研究について新たな展望を開く。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | Underclass studies have become one of the most important fields within the urban research of modern Kobe. The port workers (i.e. heavers, stevedores, etc.) were accounted for 20 percent of total workers in Kobe at the end of the Meiji era. On the other hand, waste collectors were also important to maintain urban society and life. Three companies and individuals had been contracted with Kobe city municipality to collect and dispose of waste (One of them is Kobe Labor Co., Ltd.). In fact, at the end of the Meiji, more than 80,000 workers were employed annually to collect and dispose a large amount of waste. However, little attention has been paid hitherto to the relationship between these garbage workers and port workers. Thus, to shed light on the relationship between them, this article discusses their condition of the beginning of the Meiji and survey the activities of SEKINOURA Seijiro and other related persons who had built some huge dormitories to manage stevedores. They established Kobe Labor Co., Ltd. with a large-scale dormitory in 1900 and had contracted with the city for waste disposal. As one of the first research to historically and geographically discuss the waste collection and disposal by day laborers in modern Kobe, this essay opens new vistas on the sanitation and underclass studies of modern Kobe. | |||||
