| 内容記述 | This study offers an exploratory examination of English translations of Li Po's poetry from the 19th to early 20th century. This article is organized into two parts. The first part provides a brief introduction and summary of the reception and translation of Li Po's poetry in the English-speaking world during the 19th century. It starts with an exploration of the translations found in China Opened (1838) by the German scholar Karl Friedrich A. Gützlaff, followed by an overview of subsequent translations of Li Po's poems in the English-speaking world of the same century. The second part of the study shifts focus to the early 20th century, discussing the reception and translation of Li Po's works, with particular emphasis on Amy Lowell and Florence Ayscough's Fir-Flower Tablets. In addition to introducing the translations by Amy Lowell and Florence Ayscough, the article delves into an analysis of the preface and related works, providing insights into the textual issues of the Li Po Poetry Collection referred to in Fir-Flower Tablets, as well as the methods and criteria used in selecting the poems. Furthermore, the study includes a brief analysis and discussion of the translation style in Fir-Flower Tablets and Lowell’s unique translation characteristics. | |||||||||
