| 内容記述 | The degree adverb "很(hen)" is often used in standard Mandarin to complete adjective predicate sentences. This study investigates its usage as a degree adverb in the context of the Lower Yangtze River Standard Chinese, specifically in Jiangsu Province, with the aim of ascertaining whether sentence completion patterns in this dialect reflect those of Standard Mandarin. We selected three regions within Jiangsu Province, Nanjing, Nantong, and Shuyang, for analysis. We then evaluated the sentence completion of adjective predicate sentences and the degree adverbs, utilizing survey results from the "Linguistic Atlas of Chinese Dialects-Grammar" published in 2008. The results indicate that "很(hen)" is commonly used in adjective predicate sentences in the Central Plains Mandarin dialect spoken in both Jiangsu Province and neighboring Anhui Province. As for the sentence completion of adjective predicates in Nanjing, Nantong, and Shuyang, sentences are generally completed with degree adverbs and sentence-ending particles. Notably, when an adverb closely associated with a specific dialect is used, sentence completion requires not only the degree adverb but also the addition of a sentence-ending particle. | |||||||||
