Pyrolytic (Py) GC-MS analysis was carried out to examine low-molecular organic compounds in linen fragments of an ancient mummy from the Mastaba Idout, 2360 B.C., in Saqqara, Egypt. The investigated fragments were collected from linen debris found on the floor of a burial chamber. The organic materials in the linen debris such as glues and resins are assumed to have been used to fix the linen cloth of the mummy. Py-GC-MS for the untreated linen debris was performed with 590℃ pyrolysis. The results showed that the pyrolyzed products of the organic compounds in the linen cloth were classified as histidine, furan, benzene, steroid, alkane, alkene, and their analogs. However, at this stage, it is difficult to estimate the type of initial organic material from the analysis of these pyrolyzed products. |
