| 内容記述 | Machu-Picchu archaeological site, which is called the "Ancient capital in the sky," is one of the most important and famous world heritage sites. Machu-Picchu, located on a high ridge in Peru, was the capital of the Inca Empire in the fifteenth century. There are about 200 remaining structures built of stones (granite) on the site of 13 km². Systematic conservation measures for the structures have not been conducted, except emergency measures by the regional office. Thus, the authors investigated the site, in cooperation with the Cultural Agency of Peru, to consider the possibility for contributing to the conservation of the remaining structures, especially the "Temple of the Sun" which is one of the most important structures on the site. However, the Temple of the Sun has three major problems: First, the stones of the structure have cracks caused by the high temperature of fire, which was used for burning the cut trees at the site while excavating. The second problem is that the structure became instable because some of the joint parts among the stones have been open since the site excavated. Third, the color of the structure has changed recently because of the lichens growing on the surface of the stones. This investigation made the authors realize that the conservation project for the temple can start soon. The main activities of the project as to the treatment of stones would be as follows. -Injection of epoxy resin under pressure into the cracks of the stones. -Consolidation of the fragile parts of the stones by impregnation with silicone resin and acrylic resin. -Setting the detached parts of the stones back to the original places by mortising and gluing with epoxy resin. -Filling the open spaces among the stones with a mixture of clay and lime. -Killing and elimination of lichens on the stones using a special chemical. -Making the stone structure waterproof by impregnation with hydrophobic silicone resin. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| 内容記述 | 「天空の古代都市」として世界に知られているペルーの世界遺産「マチュピチュ遺跡」は、よく遺されたインカ帝国(15世紀中頃）の遺跡である。本遺跡の石造建造物遺構の中で最も重要なものの一つである「太陽の神殿」は、石材（花岡岩）の劣化が最も大きな遺構である。その原因は、発掘調査時に、生い茂っていた灌木、樹木を切り払い、遺構の内側で燃やしたため、その火熱で亀裂が多数入り石材が劣化したためとされている。花岡岩は、その鉱物組成から火熱に弱い構造になっているからである。また、発掘された時点で、石積みの目地がずれて隙間ができており、崩れやすい状態にあった。さらに、近年になって地衣類の繁殖が増大し、変色等の外観上の問題が生じている。この「太陽の神殿」を中心に石造遺構の劣化と保存についての現地調査を、ペルー政府文化庁との共同で行った。その結果、全体としては遺跡の劣化はそれほど著しくはないものの、確実に進んでいること、それに対する保存修復対策は現在の日本の技術によって十分効果的に対処できること、現地の協力体制が整っていることなどが明らかとなった。 | |||||||||||||||||||||
