| 内容記述 | In 1762, Ōnishi Shin'emon (1743-1822) left his hometown, Himeji in Hyōgo, to become a professional Noh performer in Osaka. He became the first Noh master of the Ōnishi after studying under the guidance of the Iwai, one of the five celebrated Noh families (named Kyōkanzegokenya) of Noh chanting. Ōnishi Shinjirō (1767-1812), succeeding his uncle Shin'emon, became the second Noh master of the Ōnishi. One of his disciples, Yazaburō (dates unknown) was named the third head Noh performer of the Ōnishi shortly after Shinjirō's untimely death. The fourth Noh master of the Ōnishi was a son of the Kawachi, Sunshō (1810-1883). As a professional Noh family, the Ōnishi flourished under Sunshō's leadership, for which he received the honorary pseudonym Kyosetsu from the head of the Kanze School of Noh at the age of at least 27. His second son, Shinzō (1840-1916), succeeded him and became the fifth Noh master of the Ōnishi. Shinzō was trained by the head of the Kanze School of Noh and allegedly mastered all 200 Kanze school Noh pieces by the age of 15. Despite his accomplishments as a Noh performer, Shinzō went through financial hardships until 1900 when he received the honorary pseudonym Kansetsu and obtained a Noh theater in Umeda, Osaka. In 1906, Osaka's first Noh journal, Kokufū, was published as part of Kansetsu's efforts to promote Noh theater. With the financial support of the affluent Sumitomo family, Kansetsu's nephew Tezuka Ryōtarō (1866-1931) established the largest Noh theater in Japan in 1919. As a result of the achievements of these men, Osaka became known as a center of Noh. Kansetsu's son-in-law Shinzaburō (1877-1934) became the sixth Noh master of the Ōnishi, followed by his son Nobuhisa (1903-1983), the seventh Noh master, who succeeded in mastering all Kanze school Noh pieces by the age of 76.The eighth Noh master, Tomohisa (born in 1938), is the current head of the Ōnishi. | |||||
