| 内容記述 | Hishida Shunsō (1874-1911) graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1896. Following this he joined the Nihon Kaiga Kyokai (Japanese Painting Association). During his fellowship there, he presented several works such as four-part Landscape, Mahakasyapa Smiling at the Lotus Flower, Reflection in the Water and several others. Mahakasyapa Smiling at the Lotus and Reflection in the Water in particular reflect an inherent expression of his artistic thought. The Nihon Kaiga Kyokai was merely the starting point for Hishida. He soon moved on to join the Nihon Bijutsu-in (Japan Art Institute). Because of this it is vital to consider the early works of Hishida. In this essay I wish to concentrate on his works exhibited during Art Competition Expo. The Study of Art written by Hishida. Having taken to account the critical scrutiny of that period as well as the idealism of Okakura Tenshin [Kakuzō] (1862-1913), it can be concluded that Hishida's original intent for his work is quite apparent for this era. | |||||
