| 内容記述 | 研究の計画，研究結果の解釈，および理論の構築にとっては，前理論的な分類学的研究が必要である。その視点から一連の研究が日本において行われ，向社会的行動の類型，行動特性次元，規範的態度，および行動に関連する動機が明らかにされた。ところで，研究の対象である向社会的行動は，文化や下位文化によって規定されると考えられる。そのために，比較文化的関心から，同様の分類学的研究が米国において行われた。この論文では，米国における向社会的行動の規定要因，つまり行動の生起を促進する，あるいは抑制すると思われる動機，原因，理由に関する研究の結果が報告される。「キャップス」(CAPS)と呼ばれるデータ収集施設を利用して向社会的行動の生起に関連する動機，原因，理由が米国の大学生から集められた。収集のために提示し10種類の行動別に，促進要因と抑制要因が整理され，さらにそれらの行動に共通するそれらの要因も整理された。最後に，今後の動機研究の計画とその際に研究者が利用出来るようにと，行動の促進，あるいは抑制に関わる代表的な動機，原因，理由がリストにして提供された。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | Pre-theoretical research is essential to the planning of research design, understanding of results and formulation of theory. In accord with these concepts, a series of taxonomic research projects has been carried out in Japan. As prosocial behavior is thought to be prescribed by social norms, the taxonomic study was conducted in the United States of America using a cross-cultural approach, with an emphasis on motives for helping and not helping. Many and varied motives for helping and not helping were collected from samples obtained in the USA at the University of North Carolina, which is located in Chapel Hill, using CAPS(Computer Administered Panel Survey). Ten situations were shown where helping behavior occurred and also ten situations where it failed to occur. Then subjects of the survey were asked to type in as many motives for helping and not helping as they could think of during the study. Content analysis revealed both situation specific and cross-situation motives for helping and not helping. In addition to a discussion on cultural differences, this project also produced a proposal for a future taxonomic research project designed to further clarify the structure of motives for helping and not helping. | |||||
