| 内容記述 | ロック批判者と擁護者どちらの議論も，焦点はロックの宗教論であり，それに関連してロックの道徳論，認識論が取り上げられている。批判の核心は， 「救いに必要な唯一の信仰箇条は， イエスは救い主であるということである」というロックの考えに向けられており， これはホッブズと同じ考えであることを指摘するとともに， ロックが認めていない，キリストは神であること，アダムを通しての原罪，キリストの受肉・順罪などは， 「イエスは救い主である」ことの意味を理解するために必要であり，従って，救いに必要な信仰箇条である， ロックの考えはソッツイーニ派の考えに極めて近い， と主張されている。ロック擁護の代表者ボウルドは， 自分を罪人と自覚して， 「イエスは救い主である」と知り， 自分を救い主キリストに委ねることがその人を本当のキリスト者にする，そのような人は，キリストが聖書の中で教えているそれ以外のことを知ろうと努め，知ったことを受け容れる， と考えて， ロックのこれと同じ考えをキリスト教の真理を明らかにしたものとして擁護した。ソッツイーニ派の擁護者は，救いに必要な信仰箇条は「イエスは救い主である」ということだけであるというロックの考えを弁護し， これと関連させて，神は一つのPelsonであると論じて， これに反対するエドワーズら三位一体論者を批判した。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | The arguments of both Locke critics and vindicators were centred on his religious ideas, additionally dealing with his related ideas on morals and understanding. The core of criticisms was denial of his idea that the only article of faith necessary for salvation was the one that Jesus is the Messiah. Critics pointed out that this was the same idea as Hobbes's, and asserted that the Divinity of Christ, Original Sin through Adam, Christ's Incarnation and Redemption etc., which Locke did not acknowledge, were necessary to understand the meaning of 'Jesus is the Messiah', and therefore were necessary for salvation and that Locke's ideas were closely akin to Socinianism. Bold, a representative vindicator of Locke, held that it made a person a real Christian to be aware that he or she was a sinner, to know that Jesus is the Messiah, and to resign oneself to him, and that such a person would endeavour to know those other things in the Scripture which Christ has taught and would assent to them. He vindicated the very same ideas of Locke as revealing the truth of Christianity. A Socinian vindicator defended Locke's idea that the only necessary article for salvation was the one that Jesus is the Messiah, and asserted in connection with this, that God is one Person, and criticized Edwards and other Trinitarians who opposed it. | |||||
