| 内容記述 | 都市が市壁によって囲ぎょうされ、守護されているか否かがドイツ（欧）と日本の都市の原型を構成する決定的要因であるというのが私の仮説である。過去、私の訪独は16回に及んだ。その間、日本とは異質なもの、ドイツ（欧）に特有なものについて多くの経験を肌で実感した。その典型は日独間の安全確保を巡る差異である。本報告はこの問題に生態学的視点からアプローチを試みたものである。生態学的アプローチは二つの特質を持つ。第1に、それは歴史を主体とその環境、とりわけ自然環境との相互作用の足跡と見なす。第2に、それはサクセッションの理論をモデルとする。第1表が示すように、日独の間には自然的、社会的な対照が多々ある。この差異が市壁の存否に投影されている。市壁の存否は都市のハードとソフトの両面に最重要な影響を与えている。なお、本稿は2002年10月5日、日独社会科学会第7回大会（於 武蔵工大）における報告原稿に、若干補筆修正を加えたものである。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | I hypothesize that a decisive factor in the formation of prototype of cities in Germany and Japan was whether or not the cities were guarded by city-walls. Over the past twenty years I have visited Germany sixteen times and have gained many experiences at first hand, which are quite different from Japan. A typical example is found in the differences of ensuring urban security. An ecological approach has two characteristics : Firstly, it regards history as the trace of interactions between people and their environment, especially the natural environment. Secondly, it adopts the theory of "succession" as a model. Table 1 lists the contrasts in the natural and social environments between Germany and Japan. Those differences are reflected in the presence of city-walls. The presence of city-walls has the most important effects on the "hard" and "soft "aspects of cities. | |||||
