| 内容記述 | Recognizing Wonhyo （617‒686） became a trend in Modern Korea, which shows various aspects of image construction, such as hero in Korea, reformer, symbolic person in Tongbulgyo （通仏教）, Hwarang （花郎）, etc. Among these features, this paper focuses on “the reevalution of national consciousness” and the “herolization of Wonhyo in modern Korea”. Though Wonhyo was seen to be the representative of high priest in the Silla Dynasty, he didn’t get deserved appreciation since Joseon Dynasty. However, he was reevaluated by Korean intellectuals in the 20th century. The reevalution of Wonhyo concentrates on the side of national existence and identity under Japanese imperialism, rather than the side of Buddhism doctrine or faith. His image was conceived as “the Pride of Korean people” for he abandoned going abroad to China, and then established unique teaching methods, rather than the view of a saint who got enlightenment as a disciplinant. This trend has been inherited and remained uncritically until now. | |||||
