| 内容記述 | Giulio Aleni’s Xixuefan was published in 1623. As a monograph introducing the higher education system then prevalent in the West, in Xixuefan Aleni adopted numerous new terms for disciplines foreign to Ming-Qing China. Reseach reveals, however, that Aleni’s Xixuefan was based on Alphonsus Vagnoni’s Xixue, which sujjests that not all of the terms were newly translated by Aleni. From the perspective of lexicology with a particular focus on terms translated by sound and by meaning, this paper compares Aleni’s Xixuefan and Vagnoni’s Xixue with the intention of examininy how Aleni received Vagnoni’s work, what terms Aleni created, as well as the criteria for the translation of and the ensuing dissemination and impact of those terms. |
