| 内容記述 | In recent years, probing into life-oriented and institutional cultural issues in East- Asian community has become a major element of East Asia studies. The Lecture Movement launched by the local gentry YAN Maoyou in Fujian discussed in this article is indeed a representation of the daily life philosophy and behavior mode of people in traditional East-Asian community. This article discusses the aim and operational mode of the Yunqi Society and its branches established by the local gentry YAN Maoyou in Fujian in the 17th century and reveals the characteristics of YAN Maoyou’s philosophy of Good; namely the form of lectures, the aim of raising good people, and the ultimate ideal of turning all community members into good people. It also analyzes the agreements and rules of the Yunqi Society developed by YAN Maoyou for ensuring the Yunqi Society’s operation. The agreements and rules feature an emphasis on the importance of practicing the Ledgers of Merit and Demerit, making individual’s good deeds regulated and objective. It will be found through our discussions that the trend of the combination of lecture movement and moral advocacy had occurred in the late-Ming society in the 17th century. The philosophy advocated by the Yunqi Society features a mix of three religions. They believed that they should make continued efforts in arranging lectures and promoting good deeds to achieve self-improvement and reconstruction of the community. | |||||
