内容記述 | In the mid-Meiji era, Takejiro HASEGAWA started commercially producing crepe paper books, and soon other publishers followed him. These books were mostly Japanese fairy tales that were translated into European languages and were printed on crepe paper with colorful hand-made prints. These crepe paper books, first intended for learners of foreign languages in Japan, soon drew the attention of foreigners who bought them as gifts for people abroad. Crepe paper books deserve in-depth critical research as an interesting artistic phenomenon in the history of publication, and also in view of the development of picturebooks. Kansai University Library owns nearly one hundred crepe books, and in this paper, I present compiled data in the following lists. |
