| 内容記述 | This article analyzes the process of Chinese governance over northwest frontier of China in the Han period and examines its possibility of political independence from the China proper. In the Qin period, the northwest frontier was not considered as a region to be conquered, but the result of battle between the Han and the Xiongnu obliged the Han dynasty to inaugurate a direct government over the newly conquered frontier. At the beginning of the 1st Century, the political leaders of this region chose the way to rejoining to the Han dynasty, although they could have maintained a political independence from the Han dynasty. The leaders knew that the Chinese frontier could be sustained only by the support of the China proper, and their choice determined the pattern of Chinese culture in this region in the later times. | |||||
