 note = {This is a descriptive study for later analysis of field work based on the author’s personal experiences at Banawe, a tourist town, and Hapao, a comparatively traditional village, both in Ifugao province, during the latter half of the 1980s, in which time some external political forces; the Philippine as a nation state and former American colonial administration, counter movements such as the New Peoples Army and so on. Three local politicians will be half-biographically depicted and analyzed; the first two of them were the third generation offspring of American colonists. The last was a genuine Ifugao, who married out and succeeded in pioneering a business – a workshop of Ifugao arts in Baguio. and returned home to Banawe as a politician, however, plagued by political successes and failures. The main purpose of this article is to document some historical facts from author’s direct experiences, since the Ifugao friends orate and memorize some events, enjoy gossips, but never write down daily. In my opinion, one of anthropological studies’ merits should be recording modern history at a given research site. I owe so much to my Ifugao friends and the indigenous peoples for cooperation, a methodologically historical study on American-Ifugao relations that was applied with a simple anthropological technique by Jenista（1987）, and theoretically reflexive anthropology on fieldwork by P.Rabinow （1980）.本稿は、1980年代後半フィリピン、イフガオ州の観光町バナウェとハパオ村において直接体験にもとづく、筆者なりのフィールドワークに関する、将来、分析する意図をもった記述的研究である。これらの社会は外部的な政治勢力、例えば国民国家としてのフィリピン、アメリカ人による植民地行政、その反動としての新人民軍などに影響をうけている。主に3人の地元政治家について半ば伝記的に描き分析する。そのうち最初の2人はアメリカ人植民者の第3世代の子孫にあたり、最後の政治家は純然としたイフガオでありながら、バギオに出て結婚しイフガオの伝統的な美術品をあつかうワークショップで商業的に成功したものの、政治家となって帰郷し、その後は政治的な浮沈を繰り返した。本稿で主要な目的は筆者の直接体験から歴史的な事実を記録することである。というのもイフガオの人々は幾つかの出来事について口頭で語り記憶し、あるいは噂に興じるものの、彼らに何が起ったのかを記録しないからである。私見では人類学的研究の長所の1つは所与の調査地で現代史を紡ぐことにある。筆者がイフガオの友人たちの協力に負うところは大きく、また方法論的にはジェニスタ（1987年）による平易な人類学的方法を応用したアメリカ－イフガオの関係に関する歴史研究にも、また理論的にはラビノウ（1980年）によるフィールドワークについての内省的人類学に負っている。},
