In addition it illustrates the complicated Chinese media system in which the regulations are operationalized.\n\"The Regulations on Reporting Activities in China by Foreign Journalists during the Beijing Olympic Games and the Preparatory Period\" came into force as of Jan. 1，2007. These new regulations stipulated that foreign journalists had only to obtain an organization's or individual's prior consent when reporting in China. The regulations are\nsignificantly different from those issued in 1990 which required consent from local government or authorities when reporting in rural districts. The new regulations follow the major principles and spirit of the media rules introduced for the Beijing Olympic Games. After the Olympic Games，on Oct.17，2008，China announced a new law，essentially to sustain the Jan. 2007\nregulations. This shows how basic Chinese policy has opened the country to foreign media activities，and come to protect the lawful rights and interests of the permanent offices of foreign media organizations and foreign journalists.
