The first part reports the empirical findings of factor-analytical studies of the motivation and experience of tourists, and \"escape\" motivation is discussed as the main subject. In this part, four dimensions of the tourist's experience proposed by Sasaki (2004) are confirmed and their relationships to the motivations are examined. The second part focuses on the image of several types of package tour, and the images that might be iferred from their names are compared in the cases of two contrasting types of package tour.
