Depending on Seigaku tōzen (西学東漸), that Japanese accepted Western science and culture aggressively at that time, Konan regarded the importance of the study of Chinese history and Kaozheng (考証). He especially succeeded the research methods of China's Qian Jia School (乾嘉学派), and founded the Kyoto School of Sinology with Kuwabara Jitsuzō and Kano Naoki. Different from the Tokyo School of Historiography, they emphasized an unique historical research and system which depended on Kaozheng, and therefore trained many of researchers. Notwithstanding Konan produced important influence concerning the Cultural history of Chinese, the relative research of his study on the History of Epigraphy has not yet progressed competitively.
