So why do they enter and remain in the eldercare sector? The study aimed to explore and empirically identify the factors contributing to male staff staying employed from a bottom-up perspective. The survey comprised 16 people in three groups: managers/leaders/care staff. They vividly described their employment background, mental aspects of work, and working condition in their actual daily lives at work and home. The results revealed structural features of care work (e.g. open to newcomers), multiple aspects of satisfaction in care work (e.g. advantages of being male) and positive aspects (e.g. job stability) in comparison with other industries. In addition, the study drew an interesting picture of the reality of male staff flexibly developing their careers according to their own pace of life and sense of values.
