| 内容記述 | Japanese embroidery was widely exported from the Meiji through the Taishō periods. It was displayed in the World Exposition, and also functioned as a gift of "Japanese Art" in diplomacy. This paper pursues an understanding of the form of East West exchange through the "icon" of "design" in the various resource materials preserved by the Takashimaya Department Store, an important producer of embroidery and those pieces that still exist. While the indicated "painting of designs" (according to Japanese painting traditions) trend widely seen in Meiji-period industry is also seen with embroidery, it also reflects the tendency for the absorbtion of Western design, and a preference for the West. The results of East West exchange can be seen in the direct and indirect influences in the "icons" of "design". |
