After 1848's gold rush, thousands of low-salary Chinese workers flood into California, and the tense between white and Chinese workers elevated. The conflict was reflected in the plenty anti-Chinese reports, caricatures in 19th century American pictorials. Through close analyzing of the famous New York based pictorial, Harper's Weekly, I would like to, first, reinvestigate the publication of anti-Chinese pictures in the newspaper.
