| 内容記述 | In Taiwan popular literature, what kind of popular romance novels were read before Qiong Yao was excluded from the researches for a long time. Qiong Yao seems to be suddenly popping up into modern popular romance history of Taiwan. Due to lots of research papers regarded Qiong Yao as the leading author in Taiwan’s romance novels or the heir of mandarin duck and butterfly faction in May-Fourth, there were no place to make mention about the beginning of Taiwan modern Chinese literature in the 1950s. Clearly, these papers were in a hasty attempt to conclude that the fever of mandarin duck and butterfly faction was revived in Taiwan again. However, this kind of expression will only leave the early popular romance novels in 1950s to untouched. The 1950s is described by Taiwan literary history as the anticommunist era. Although, in my opinion, it was also the start of Taiwan popular romance literature. To follow the track down to Qiong Yao is very important to rediscover the early popular romance literature in the 1950s. This paper focus “The China News” (1953?~1957?), as a mass magazine, and Book-lending Shops, as a valuable reading field in 1950s. Both of them will show the popular culture circumstance of the 1950s from different angles. “The China News” is the remarkable magazine, because there is no picture at cover page but only very sensational headlines. Readers in 1950s would be attracted by the sexual and scandalous articles, due to the society was extremely disciplined. “The China News” not only off ered its readers gossips and the inside of political news, but also created a column to serialized one romance novel which included anticommunist and spy, detective tastes. Reader can see all kind of popular fl avors in the story. Meanwhile, book-lending shops created a convenient reading field for citizens. When Taiwan’s publication market was undeveloped, book-lending shops already had their own distribution routes to sale books only for book-lending. Also readers could purchase books, which is not the government recommended. Needless to say, Taiwan’s popular literature took the advantage of book-lending shops to boost its readers. |
