| 内容記述 | Sukema Ojima (1881-1966), a pioneering scholar of Chinese intellectual history at Kyoto Imperial University, maintained a profound interest in the Chinese revolution throughout his career. In the early postwar period, he published his "Revolution Trilogy" —Revolutionary Thought in China (Chūgokuno kakumei shisō), The Chinese Communist Party (Chūgoku kyōsantō), and Society and Revolution (Shakai to kakumei). By examining the core arguments of his revolutionary discourse and situating them in the context of modern Japanese intellectual currents and his personal networks, this paper seeks to elucidates the distinctiveness, significance, and historical positioning of Ojima’s views on revolution. As the culmination of Ojima's longstanding scholarly inquiry and intellectual refinement, the "Revolution Trilogy" forms an organic, coherent whole, reflecting his systematic understanding and vision of the past, present, and future of revolution. At the core of his revolutionary theory lies the fundamental question of how to navigate the complex relationship between state and society, which led him to a strong and lasting endorsement of the principle of "small state, large society," with the ultimate aim of constructing a society oriented toward the grand ideals of human unity and global peace. In essence, Ojima's theory of revolution and vision of society are structurally integrated: while framed as a discourse on revolution, its core is fundamentally social. This unity of form and substance was crystallized in his distinctive line of socialist thought—an intellectual outcome born of the convergence and confrontation between Eastern and Western traditions, as well as between classical and modern ideas. This examination not only provides a distinctive case study for understanding Kyoto Sinology, but also sheds new light on one aspect of modern Japanese intellectual history. | |||||||||
