| 内容記述 | During the Qing dynasty, the Lama Temple (Yong he gong) functioned as a royal monastery and the central institution for managing Tibetan Buddhist affairs across the empire. During the Republic of China, it underwent a transformation into a publicly accessible temple and museum. While officially upholding Tibetan Buddhism, the Republican government relied on modern institutions—particularly the Beijing Police Department—to maintain public order and protect cultural relics at the site. However, the ongoing political instability of the era led to frequent thefts of temple artifacts, many perpetrated by lamas themselves, whose status as internal crimes posed significant obstacles to police investigations. The misconduct of lamas, often rooted in poverty and administrative breakdowns, also attracted attention from governmental authorities. The case of Lama Temple illustrates not only the Republican government's approach to Mongolian and Tibetan affairs but also the complexities and limitations inherent in the management of religious institutions during this period. | |||||||||
