| 内容記述 | In December 1938, a cabinet decision by the Japanese government established Toa Kaiun Kaisha as a measure to strengthen maritime transport with China. The company was established primarily to engage in shipping between Japan and China, along the coasts of mainland China, between China and the South Seas, and between China and other countries, as well as investing in related businesses, including wharf warehousing at major ports in southern China and at the ports of Tianjin and Tanggu. Following the Treaty of Shimonoseki in 1895, the company played a key role in integrating Japanese steamship companies that had expanded into mainland China. Its short lifespan of approximately eight years, until Japan's defeat in the Asia-Pacific War in 1945, was short. Over its eight-year existence, Toa Kaiun Kaisha published a variety of shipping route guides. This paper will discuss the shipping route guides published by Toa Kaiun Kaisha. | |||||
