| 内容記述 | This study examines the historical evolution of the Japanese gagaku shō, a free-reed instrument originating from ancient China. Focusing on the Tang Dynasty shō preserved at the Shōsōin Repository—the oldest extant example—this study highlights its remarkable structural consistency with modern instruments. While Chinese textual records are limited, physical artifacts and analysis of the shō's unique chordal structures ("aitake") provide insights into performance practices in Tang China and ancient Japan. The study builds upon the pioneering organological and tonal analyses of Japanese musicologist Hayashi Kenzō (1899－1976), offering an empirical investigation into the instrument's morphology and performing traditions. | |||||
