| 内容記述 | This paper examines the reception of Middle and Late Tang poetry in Japan, focusing on the literary interpretation of Ōe no Masafusa during the Heian period and its subsequent transformation within medieval Gozan (Five Mountains) literature. Masafusa regarded poets, such as Xu Hun, Zhang Xiaobiao, Du Xunhe, and Wen Tingyun, as inheritors of the "Yuanhe style" of Bai Juyi and Yuan Zhen, collectively referred to as "Yuan–Bai." This conceptualization reflects the broad circulation of these four poets' works, comparable to that of Yuan and Bai, throughout East Asia, and their valuation not merely for transmission, but as texts worthy of aesthetic appreciation and recitation, as evidenced by anthologies such as the Senzai Kaku and the Wakan Rōeishū. Moreover, Masafusa's philological investigations, conducted by order of Emperor Shirakawa and recorded in the Kō annotations to the Wakan Rōeishū, further contributed to establishing Middle and Late Tang poetry as a corpus of literary significance. While Bai Juyi's dominant influence in the Heian period declined sharply in medieval times, and attention to Yuan Zhen diminished correspondingly, Bai retained iconic status within Gozan literature due to his close association with Zen Buddhism. By contrast, Yuan Zhen was largely avoided for moral reasons. Nevertheless, the paired construct of "Yuan–Bai" persisted as a stable referent in poetic diction and literary allusion. | |||||||||
