| 内容記述 | Traditional industrial clusters in Japan have long been regarded as central pillars of regional economies and as key drivers of manufacturing-led growth. The main research paradigm on these clusters has been largely grounded in a regionalism perspective, which emphasizes regeneration within existing production districts. However, this regionally self-contained paradigm has revealed significant limitations, as the aging and deterioration of intra-regional supply chains have proceeded. Nevertheless, previous studies have continued to rely on the notion of regional lock-in derived from path dependency in evolutionary economics.This paper shifts attention to China, where the transferability of industrial clusters across regions has been actively explored. Focusing on the electric bicycle industrial cluster in Wuxi and the apparel industrial cluster in Wenzhou, it examines how geographical constraints have been overcome and how new life cycles are reconstructed. Through case analysis, it identifies the presence of merchant innovators as key coordinators who drive the evolution of industrial clusters beyond regional embeddedness. By clarifying their roles and functions, alternative pathways for sustaining and revitalizing the industrial clusters of Japan are suggested. | |||||||||
