| 内容記述 | Walter Richard Sickert (1860-1942), a British painter and critic, produced the 'English Echo series' in his later years. This series of oil paintings was based on existing illustrations that had been published in popular Victorian-era printed materials. At the same time, Sickert's contributions to the Royal Academy of Arts, in the form of works submitted to the institution, similarly drew upon existing imagery. However, these works exhibited characteristics that diverged from the conventional norms and regulations of the Royal Academy. This paper will discuss the reproduction of images in Sickert's Royal Academy submissions, in the context of the author's prior research demonstrating the reception of 'Echoes' by British modernists of the same period and the affinity between 'Echoes' and the critical theory of Roger Eliot Fry (1866-1934). The study will demonstrate Sickert's provocative attitude towards both the modernists and the Academy, as expressed through his works, and the hollowing out of the judging criteria at the Academy at the time. | |||||||||
