| 内容記述 | Yanagi Muneyoshi (1889–1961) is a key figure of the Japanese folk crafts movement (Mingei movement) and a leading researcher of Otsu-e. Otsu-e is a type of simple painting that originated in Otsu near Kyoto in 17th century and became known throughout Japan as a souvenir during the Edo period. Yanagi praised Otsu-e as painting what have the beauty of Mingei. In 1929 he published “Early Otsu-e” and exhibited some Otsu-e at “the Japanese Folk Crafts Exhibition”. In 1930 he had an exhibition “JAPANESE PEASANT PAINTING” at the Fogg Museum and published an English-language treatise “THE PEASANT PAINTINGS OF OTSU, JAPAN”. It can be said that the accomplishments of these two years have laid the foundation for Otsu-e to become an important genre within the Mingei movement. This article describes Yanagi’s accomplishments regarding Otsu-e from 1929 to 1930. How did he watch Otsu-e? He praised their easy brush scrok made by unnamed craftsmen as being fascinating. And He argued that early Otsu-e contained the Buddha nature that arose spontaneously from the common people. He found the Buddha nature in early Otsu-e paintings, not as souvenirs. | |||||
