| 内容記述 | Guangdong Province has a longstanding tradition of ghost belief and deity worship. In its eastern regions, every household in Chaozhou and Shantou worships Bo Gong. On the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month, as well as during travel or business transactions, locals actively engage with Bo Gong. Temples dedicated to Bo Gong are a common sight in the streets and alleys of these areas. Locals in Chaozhou generally believe Bo Gong is Bo Yi, an ancestor from the Qin Dynasty, who is credited in the Records of the Grand Historian with assisting Yu the Great in controlling floods and is revered in folklore for his ability to ward off tiger attacks. In contrast, Shantou residents worship the Earth God, Fude Zhengshen, in their Bo Gong temples, attributing to him the status of a local deity. This paper aims to detail the identities of these two primary deities, both known as Bo Gong, and to analyze the reasons behind the differing deity worship in Chaozhou and Shantou. This discussion will consider the historical migration from the Central Plains to the south and the subsequent influx of Fujianese into Chaozhou Prefecture. | |||||||||
