| 内容記述 | This paper examines the use of adjective predicate sentences and the word “很(hen)” in Southwestern Mandarin. While only two out of the sixteen surveyed regions in Southwestern Mandarin indicate that adjectives cannot independently function as predicates, there is a lack of detailed discussion on the meanings associated with “comparison or contrast” and “incompleteness of statement.” This study therefore advocates that a comprehensive evaluation involving additional dialect areas is essential. Additionally, it reveals that “很” generally acts as a complement in colloquial speech. When paired with “得,” it intensifies the adjective to mean “very” or “extremely.” Conversely, its use without “得” typically suggests “too much” or “excessively.” | |||||||||
