| 内容記述 | The present paper reports the findings of a survey investigating the use of AI tools in the area of business interpreting. According to the information provided by a professional interpreter engaged in the business, there are currently cases where English and Japanese transcriptions, along with their translations, are displayed simultaneously on the PC screens. In such cases, the interpreters can interpret spoken texts by referring the transcription and translation. Accordingly a survey was designed to explore the extent to which this type of practice is currently prevalent in Japanese business alnog with the interpreters’ orientations towards such a practice in these contexts. Additionally, the study explores the prospects of interpreters collaborating with AI tools in the future by analyzing the interpreters’ thoughts on this issue. Although the respondents expressed skepticism about the complete replacement of human interpreters with AI tools, by highlighting such distinct abilities of interpreters as comprehending non-verbal communication for which human involvement is essential, they anticipated a future in which human interpreters collaborate with AI tools. Since this marks only the initial stage of AI development, it is imperative to monitor the evolving circumstances. | |||||
