| 内容記述 | The present paper reports the results of follow-up interviews conducted with the English-to-Japanese professional interpreters. The previous interviews were conducted in 2021 and 2022. As it seems that the situation surrounding COVID-19 has been under control since last autumn, the follow-up interviews were conducted for the purpose of exploring the further changes in the number of interpreting assignments and the interpreting styles that were emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was revealed that the number of interpreting assignments has increased significantly since last autumn. That was almost a record high. Regarding the interpreting styles, on-line interpreting that was introduced during the outbreak of COVID-19 still remains as frequently-used means of interpreting, despite the fact that non-Japanese speakers are allowed to enter the country thus allowing face-to-face interpreting to resume. Onsite interpreting was resumed, however, there are meetings that are held still online with some participnats attending online in ‘hybrid’ (onsite and online) mode. Given this situation, would-be interpreters are encouraged to become familiar with on-line interpreinting, as it will continue to be used as a convenient means of communication with people in remote areas. There is still demand for interpreters, even if more Japanese speakers became able to communicate in English. | |||||
