| 内容記述 | Coming-of-age ceremonies, referred to as “冠礼” (guanli) in Chinese, have ancient origins and are integral Confucian rituals. Their significance and procedures are delineated in “Yili” (儀礼) and “Liji” (礼記). These practices have profoundly influenced adulthood ceremonies in the neighboring countries of Korea, Japan, and Vietnam. Following the Battle of Sekigahara in early modern Japan, the Tokugawa shogunate’s warrior-class etiquette was shaped by Zen Buddhism traditions, particularly the Ogasawara-ryu and Ise-ryu. Additionally, Zhu Xi’s “Family Rituals” influenced the conduct of feudal lords. Upon the Ryukyu Kingdom being incorporated into Japan’s feudal system in 1609, Ryukyuan ceremonies were reformed under Satsuma’s influence. Warrior- class etiquette from Japan’s coming-of-age ceremony permeated Ryukyuan customs. In Kumemura, inhabited by descendants of Chinese immigrants and a gateway between Ryukyu and China, Confucian scholars developed the coming- of-age ceremony based on Confucian principles. This influence subsequently spread throughout the Ryukyuan nobility through Kumemura. This manuscript examines the genpuku (元服) ceremony of Kumemura’s samurai class during the early modern period. Using sources such as the Shihon-dou Kairei and Katoku-dou Kibo-cho -- ritual guides for life events -- this study analyzes the conduct of the samurai’s genpuku ceremony. Insights from 蔡大鼎’s “擬長孫元服記” and Kumemura antithetical couplets are incorporated to further illuminate the samurai’s understanding of the ceremony. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the influence of Confucian thought on these practices. | |||||
