| 内容記述 | Deigun was a high-ranking Kudara official who had Chinese ancestry. He surrendered to the Tang when Kudara fell in 660, and following this, he was an intermediary between the Tang and Wakoku and Siragi, and he was active in diplomatic negotiations. In 2011 , an epitaph on Deigun was discovered in Xi’an, China. In 2013 , the author published a study of this epitaph, which received criticism by several researchers. This paper will respond to these critiques and correct certain deficiencies in the previous paper. The relevant conclusions are as follows. (1)The word “Nippon” in the Deigun epitaph does not represent the name of the country; instead, “Nippon” and “Fukoku” are used as alternate names for the country of Wakoku. (2)The phrases “Nippon’s remains” and “Fukoku’s remains” refer to soldiers from Wakoku who fled to their home country. (3)The mission of Deigun, who visited Wakoku twice in 664 and 665 , was to invite envoys from Wakoku to the Chinese governing structure located in the former territory of Kudara. It appears that Deigun was promoted as a result of his having fulfilled this mission, as recorded in the Deigun epitaph. (4)The Deigun epitaph states “The person who is pretending to be the king is planning to give up the title of king and go to Tang with his leaders to apologize to the Tang emperor.” This indicates that Zenko, the King of Kudara, who was staying in Wakoku, had apparently renounced the title of King of Kudara and promised to lead the royal family of Kudara to Tang. (5) It appears that this promise was not kept, and Zenko instead dispatched envoys to Tang, including Morino Oishi, on their behalf. It is likely that these envoys attended the ceremony held on Taizan in January 666. | |||||
