| 内容記述 | 日本各地の林業発展の歴史を読み解き，将来にわたって記憶・記録していくため，日本森林学会が選定する「林業遺産」について，近年選定された一つの事例を取り上げた。林業機械化センターの所在する根利集落は，1940(昭和15)年から敷設が開始された根利森林鉄道により活況を呈したが，森林鉄道の衰退・廃止とともに，地域活動にも活力を失いつつあった。そうした状況を好転させるきっかけとなった，林業機械化センター関連の「林業遺産」及び「よみがえれボールドウィン実行委員会」の活動について，振り返った。また，地域活性化に向けた国の施策についても，遺産，特に森林鉄道に関連するものを取りまとめた。遺産は，地域活性化に活用されることにより，その存在意義が改めて認識されるという可能性がある。そのためには，「林業活動」をより広く捉え，歴史学・地理学等の学問領域における知見も援用して，対象に向き合うことが必要となる。今後，「林業遺産」を地域活性化へ活用するに当たっては，経済的側面のみならず，普及教育的側面，象徴的側面への配慮も不可欠である。 | |||||||||

| 内容記述 | This paper focuses on one recently selected case study of the “Forestry Heritage” selected by the Japanese Forestry Society to decipher the history of forestry development in various regions of Japan and to remember and record it for the future. The Neri community, where the Forestry Mechanization Center is located, had been booming since the Neri Forest Railroad was constructed in 1940, but as the railroad declined and was discontinued, the community activities lost their vitality. This paper reviews the “Forestry Heritage” related to the Forestry Mechanization Center and the activities of the “Revive The Baldwin Executive Committee” that led to a turnaround of the situation, and also summarizes national policies for regional revitalization related to heritage, especially forest railroad. Heritage could be utilized for regional revitalization, thereby reaffirming the significance of their existence. We need to take a broader view of “forestry activities,” and to use knowledge from the fields of history, geography, and other academic disciplines to deal with the subject. In utilizing the “Forestry Heritage” for regional revitalization, it is essential to consider not only the economic aspect, but also the educational and symbolic aspects. | |||||||||
