I think establishment of place cognition and geographic image is a prerequisite for “teaching and learning without separating the culture, society and history contained in it, by emphasizing the culture behind the language” (Science Council of Japan 2010:34) in a limited time. In this paper, I analyzed the current situation regarding students’ perception of place cognition, and their change before and after the classes, in order to meet the prerequisite above and provide effective elementary Chinese language education.
