At the time of the survey, the site was initially assumed to be a modern quarry based on the artifacts collected. However, research of administrative documents revealed that it was a quarry from the Taisho Period. (1912-1926). The use of the quarry is unknown. Since the construction period of the quarry was close to that of the nearby erosion control weir, we estimated that the quarry may have been used to supply materials for the Tanakamiyama Area Soil Saving Project.
