Although databases such as CiNii Research and J-STAGE provide some citation information for the Japanese papers, they are insufficient. In order to construct a citation database, it is necessary to obtain exhaustive information on the citations listed for each article. Utilizing bibliographic data from the Japan Link Center (JaLC), we analyzed the inclusion rate of citation data. Our findings revealed that over 9 million citations for papers published between 2012 and 2021 were available. Papers with three or more pages listed on J-STAGE notably had a high incidence of containing citation information. However, only a fraction of these citations were linked to their respective DOIs, present predominantly as plain text strings.
