| 内容記述 | Since the 19th century, English translations of classical Chinese poetry have been appearing. Among them, English translations of the poems of Li Bai, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, have also received attention. For example, Ezra Pound’s Cathay (1915) and Amy Lowell & Florence Ayscough’s Fir-Flower Tables (1921), as well as Japanese translator Obata Shigeyoshi’s The works of Li Po: The Chinese Poet (1922) by the Japanese translator Obata Shigeyoshi, which focused on translating Li Bai’s poetry and gained many readers in the Western world. Therefore, how did these English translations translate Li Bai’s poems? How did the translators in the English-speaking world understand the meaning and emotion of Li Bai’s poems from their own viewpoint? And how did the translators accurately translate the meaning of the original poem to the readers in the Western world? This study focuses on the English translation works of Li Bai from the perspective of narratology. The study selects nine English translations of Li Bai’s works and analyzes them in terms of the persona chosen by different translators in their translations, as well as in terms of translation perspectives. | |||||||||
